By Stephen J. McMichael, OFM, Conv.

Via Zoom

This FREE Zoom presentation focuses on the theme of mercy and compassion in the writings of Francis of Assisi, especially his Testament, Earlier Rule (1221), and Letter to the Minister. Mercy/compassion is the lens to interpret Francis’ entire life and is the epicenter of Franciscan spirituality as revealed by Pietro Maranesi, Pietro Messa, and other Italian scholars.

Steven J. McMichael, OFM Conv., is an Associate Professor in the Theology Department at the University of Saint Thomas (Saint Paul, Minnesota) and has published three recent books. He is also the managing editor for the Medieval Franciscan series published by E. J. Brill.

The Gospel of Luke: Apply Luke’s Message to Your Daily Living Part 2

Guest Speaker: Fr. Joe Schwab OFM

Luke teaches us that while God’s promises are fulfilled in Jesus, he focuses on applying Jesus’ teachings to the daily experiences of ordinary people living under the Roman empire. Thus, this Gospel includes some of Jesus’ most familiar parables, stories, and conversations. They may be overly familiar. Let’s listen with new ears and let them challenge us. You are invited to come and experience this introduction to the Gospel of Luke, and then apply it to your daily living. You may be surprised by how it can challenge you in your Lenten journey!

Our Call and Conversion: A Biblical Journey Toward Lent

Guest Speaker: Fr. Garrett Galvin OFM (Franciscan School of Theology)

Although the popular understanding of Lent can be overly ascetic, the Church gives us tools for discovering a new and fruitful journey. Let’s explore the idea of a journey by focusing on the three priorities we hear on Ash Wednesday: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These priorities prepare us for a season of transformation rather than a season of negativity. By the end of our Lenten journey, we can have a deeper and more joyful relationship with both our Lord and each other.
