To the members of St. Barbara Parish,
Last week, Fr. Adrian announced that he would be taking a leave and returning to Ireland for a time. We appreciate the warm wishes and messages of thanks that were extended to him by parishioners.
For the near term, I have been asked by the Provincial. Fr. David Gaa, to serve as interim Administrator of the parish. In this role, I will be responsible for the pastoral, ministerial and temporal concerns of the faith community here at the Old Mission. I ask for your prayers and support as I assume these duties. I continue to serve as the Guardian of the Franciscan community residing here at the Mission. I will also continue to collaborate with Monica Orozco, PhD, the Executive Director of the Mission, to coordinate the ministries, activities and outreach of all the entities residing in this most sacred space.
St. Barbara Parish has a long history and I look forward to working with you to serve the faith community as well as moving out from our parish to serve the poor and marginalized in the greater Santa Barbara area. By doing so, we will be animating our parish mission: In the Franciscan tradition, we strive to live the gospel in prayer, evangelization, outreach and stewardship.
Peace and all good,
Fr. John Hardin, OFM
